Police: Watch out for relay runners on road

Police are are advising the public to be aware of large numbers of runners on major highways between Hilo and South Kohala today and Saturday.

Police are are advising the public to be aware of large numbers of runners on major highways between Hilo and South Kohala today and Saturday.

The runners are participating in the Ragnar relay race, which began today and is scheduled to run until Saturday or until the relay runners complete a 200-mile course.

The course began at Bayfront Highway and ends at the Hapuna Prince Hotel.

The route includes Hawaii Belt Road, Kohala Mountain Road, Akoni Pule Highway, Kawaihae Road, Mamalahoa Highway, Waikoloa Road and Queen Kaahumanu Highway.

In additional to runners, motorists should watch out for support vans, police said.
